Police providers from throughout Ontario gathered on the Halton Police Service Head Quarters right here in Oakville for a press convention to Launch the Festive R.I.D.E. (Scale back Impaired Driving All over the place) marketing campaign towards impaired driving all through the vacation season.

The annual marketing campaign promotes visitors enforcement and raises consciousness in regards to the many risks related to alcohol- and drug-impaired driving.

Yesterday’s Oakville occasion included police providers and marketing campaign supporters devoted to selling secure driving all through Ontario this vacation season, together with the Ontario Affiliation of Chiefs of Police (OACP), the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS).

In 2024 alone, the Halton Police have arrested and charged 357 residents for impaired driving.

“Our message is straightforward: Simply do not do it,” stated Solicitor Basic Michael Kerzner when he spoke on the podium.

“The results of driving beneath the affect or beneath the affect of different unlawful substances trigger great ramifications for communities, for households, and for family members.”

The marketing campaign will see a rise in roadside spot-checks on necessary roadways in addition to off-ramps of highways.

Law enforcement officials have stated that between the years of 2012 and 2020, the share of drivers which were killed whereas beneath the affect has skyrocketed to greater than double the earlier share.

The province has seen 44 deaths this 12 months from impaired driving in line with OPP Deputy Commissioner Rohan Thompson.

The police are urging folks this vacation season to plan their rides accordingly or to take public transit so they don’t run the danger of being added to the checklist of impaired drivers arrested this 12 months.
