A 23-year-old man faces attempted murder charges after being shot by police in Burlington, Ont., as reported by Halton police.
In addition to attempted murder, he’s also charged with dangerous driving and possession of fentanyl.
At approximately 12:30 a. m. on March 8, officers were performing a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Crestwood Motel on Plains Road E., when the man “drove toward officers,” according to a news release from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) on Sunday.
A Halton police officer shot the man multiple times, said the SIU, which investigates incidents involving police that result in death, serious injury, or sexual assault. They mentioned that several investigators are looking into the shooting.
The man was hospitalized but has since been released and is now in custody awaiting a bail hearing, according to Halton police’s update on Thursday.
The SIU also stated that a woman who was a passenger in the vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
