Police report that a man from Burlington has received a life sentence after the murder of his wife in 2023.

Halton police indicate that 73-year-old Sandor Somogyi was initially charged with first-degree murder when his wife’s body was discovered in a Burlington home on January 13, 2023.

They mention that a jury convicted him of second-degree murder this April.

Today, Somogyi appeared in court for sentencing, and the judge decided he will not be eligible for parole for 13 and a half years.

The cause of death has not been revealed by police.

According to Halton police in a news release, they hope this court decision “brings some measure of healing” to the community.
