Burlington has decided to extend online voting for the 2026 municipal election by two days after a mailing mistake resulted in 5,000 voter information letters not reaching homes in Ward 6.
The city announced on Tuesday that online voting, which was set to end on Friday, will now stay open until Sunday, Oct. 25, at 8 p. m.
Voter information letters include necessary details for eligible residents who wish to vote online.
The city stated that households in Ward 6 affected by this issue should expect their letters to arrive by mail by Wednesday.
Other eligible voters who haven’t received their letters can call 905-335-7777, ext. 8683, to request one directly.
In Hamilton, city council voted against allowing online voting for this municipal election back in July.
Burlington residents who choose to vote in person do not need a voter information letter but must bring a valid piece of ID showing their name and address.
On election day, Monday, Oct. 26, in-person voting will take place from 10 a. m. to 8 p. m.
More information about voting can be found on the city’s website.
