A disbarred lawyer from Brampton has been taken into custody and charged after reportedly running four mortgage and cheque fraud schemes amounting to about $4.3 million, according to Peel police.

Pawanjeet Singh Mann, 52, is facing a range of charges, including several counts of fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained through crime, criminal breach of trust, and uttering forged documents, police stated in a news release on Monday.

Authorities claim Mann “knowingly participated” in a mortgage fraud scheme back in 2019 and noted that their fraud bureau received “multiple complaints” suggesting he was involved in fraudulent actions.

Mann’s license to practice law was revoked by the Law Society Tribunal of Ontario in 2025 as a result of these activities, as mentioned in the release.

Police indicated there could be more victims and are urging anyone who thinks they might have been impacted or anyone with information to reach out to investigators.
