Officer Tarun Bali Honored at Funeral Service

An Ontario Provincial Police constable who lost his life in the line of duty last week was celebrated for his commitment, uplifting spirit, and devotion to his family and colleagues during a funeral in Mississauga.

Const. Tarun Bali from Brampton was described as “a positive force of energy,” showing up on his first day at the Dufferin OPP detachment wearing a bright baby blue suit, according to Sgt. Jay Moore.

“You never shied away from being in the spotlight, so it feels right that you had this grand farewell,” he mentioned, noting that Bali formed strong connections with his platoon.

“He didn’t just forge friendships; he created a family.”

Thousands gathered in Mississauga to pay their respects after Bali was tragically struck by a vehicle last week in Hearst, northern Ontario while police attempted to apprehend a man who had fled from a hospital. An 18-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder related to the incident.

Komal Sharma Bali remembered her husband as “a light” who continues to shine through everyone he met.

“Tarun was my best friend, my safe place, my greatest love, my home,” she shared. “He somehow made the toughest days feel lighter.”

Hindu prayers and devotional music filled the Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre where the 29-year-old’s memorial service occurred.

Only the sounds of footsteps and quiet whispers accompanied the procession as Bali’s casket was carried out of the centre. The uniform along with an Ontario flag atop the casket were presented to his family.

Moore stated that over time he grew to see Bali as an adopted son. Bali affectionately referred to him as “Papa Moore” and called his wife “Mama Moore,” he noted.

“Even though you were taken from us cruelly and with hate, you taught us all how to live with pride, courage, and most importantly love,” said Moore.

Sharma Bali sent a heartfelt message to Dufferin officers expressing her husband’s deep love for them like family.

She encouraged officers in Hearst and James Bay to be kind towards themselves since that’s what Bali would have wanted.

 
“You did everything you could in that moment,” she said. “Our very best efforts can’t change what happened and that’s not your fault.”
