Police say the man didn’t come up after jumping into the water near the Ungerman Park cliffs on Saturday evening

A 28-year-old man from Brampton has lost his life in a drowning accident that occurred in Gravenhurst on Saturday night.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police’s Bracebridge detachment, emergency services were alerted to the Gravenhurst Wharf on Steamship Bay Road around 5:50 p. m. on June 21 due to reports of a potential drowning.

Authorities state that a group had been enjoying time at the Ungerman Park cliffs when one person did not resurface after entering the water.

The individual was retrieved from the water and taken to Muskoka Wharf by nearby boaters. Despite efforts by first responders to save him, he was declared dead.

Police are urging locals and visitors to be careful around bodies of water and suggest using personal flotation devices or lifejackets during water activities.

The investigation is still ongoing.
