Peel police are looking into a suspicious death after a body was discovered near train tracks in Brampton, Ont.
On Sunday afternoon, Peel Regional Police shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, that there is a significant police presence in the vicinity of Queen Street E. and Theatre Lane following the discovery of a deceased person close to the tracks.
The case is being treated as a suspicious death, although it’s unclear what circumstances led up to it, Const. Moulika Sharma informed CBC Toronto via email.
“Most deaths are considered suspicious until the results of autopsy are made available,” she said. “Officers will be on scene for an unknown amount of time conducting their investigation and we appreciate the public’s patience at this time.”
Sharma noted that this incident is not being classified as a homicide. Peel police have not released any details about the individual until next of kin have been informed.
She also mentioned that they received the call shortly before 8:30 a. m.
In an email to CBC Toronto, Metrolinx stated that there are currently no service disruptions related to this incident. They confirmed that it did not involve a train.
