Spike in Break-Ins Reported in Mississauga and Brampton

Spike in Break-Ins Reported in Mississauga and Brampton
172 break-and-enters over 31 days in Mississauga and Brampton, Ontario

In the past 31 days, there have been 172 break-and-enter incidents in Mississauga and Brampton.

Data from Peel Regional Police shows these events occurred between Dec. 17 and Jan. 17.

Mississauga reported 115 of these crimes, while Brampton saw 57 incidents.

The data reveals that various locations were targeted:

A total of 79 houses, eight apartments, two residential garages or sheds, four additional apartments, two restaurants, two construction sites, 21 stores, and four offices were hit; nine were marked as “other,” while 41 businesses remained “unidentified.”

This month’s most common spots for break-ins included:

Hurontario Street-four occurrences Matheson Boulevard-11 occurrences

As of Saturday, investigations into most cases are ongoing; out of them, 160 remain active, seven are resolved, and five have not yet been solved.

Residents should take precautions to keep their homes secure by following these tips shared by police:

Keep shrubs and hedges around your property maintained to allow for clear lines of sight to all
accessible windows and doors. Ensure garage and screen doors are locked, even while at home. Get to know your neighbours and look out for each other’s properties. Consider installing a second locking device for windows and any sliding doors.
