Detectives are still looking for answers after a 50-year-old woman was found with serious injuries behind a home this summer.
A woman discovered gravely hurt in the backyard of a residence close to downtown Barrie this past summer has passed away due to her injuries, according to police.
“I can confirm that the woman found injured in June did pass away in hospital earlier this week,” said Barrie police spokesperson Jennett Mays.
Whether or not any criminal activity is connected to the woman’s injuries and later death has not been decided yet, Mays noted.
The investigation is still active, she said, adding that detectives from the Investigative Services Division are “exhausting all leads and information available.”
The victim, a 50-year-old resident of Barrie, was found injured and unconscious behind a Henry Street home on June 5, just before 6 p. m.
No details regarding how she was hurt or if police were pursuing any suspects were released at the time. However, law enforcement officials have previously stated that there was “no criminal element” involved.
Police have made multiple public appeals in recent months while searching for witnesses. This includes asking to talk with several individuals who were waiting for a bus at Anne and Donald streets on June 4 around 9:30 p. m.
In surveillance footage provided by police, one individual can be seen using a walker, another with a bicycle, along with a pedestrian.
Authorities are urging anyone who recognizes these individuals to email the investigating officer at [email protected].
