A 33-year-old resident from Brampton is set to appear in court in Orillia today after a body was discovered Tuesday night at a nature park.
UPDATE (3:05 p. m.): A man from Brampton has been charged with second-degree murder regarding this case.
Devon Alamina, 33, was taken into custody and charged, according to a news release from Orillia OPP this afternoon. He is scheduled to appear in court today (June 3).
“Investigators believe there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Residents can expect an increased police presence around Scout Valley Trail off Old Barrie Road as the investigation proceeds,” police stated in the release.

ORIGINAL STORY
The Orillia OPP is looking into a suspicious death that occurred in Scout Valley, which is a nature park located off Old Barrie Road in west Orillia.
On Tuesday at around 7:10 p. m., officers were dispatched to Scout Valley, where they found one person deceased.
“While the cause of death cannot yet be confirmed, the OPP urges local residents to stay alert and report any recent or ongoing suspicious activity to law enforcement,” police mentioned in a release.
The community can expect more police activity as officers continue their investigation.
The OPP has received several inquiries about where exactly the deceased individual was found, their age, whether any suspects are still at large, if there’s concern for public safety, and how long the park will remain closed.
“At this moment we can’t share additional information as it’s an active investigation,” said Ashley Taylor, regional media and communications coordinator for Central Region OPP.
The Orillia OPP Crime Unit is leading this inquiry under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch along with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
