A dog that was loose and attacked multiple people, including a child, has been killed by the police in Barrie, Ont.

The aggressive dog was seen around 2:30 a. m. Thursday near Tiffin Street and Patterson Road, according to a news release from the Barrie Police Service.

Officers identified it as the same dog that had been roaming free since Monday when it reportedly injured an 11-year-old boy.

The boy is still in hospital but is stable, police said.

This week, police maintained a presence in the area while searching for the dog, even using a drone to aid their efforts.

The last sighting of the dog was Monday afternoon.

While officers tried to catch it, they noted that it became aggressive.

“Due to the immediate safety threat, an officer discharged their weapon resulting in the dog’s death,” police said.

Authorities believe several individuals may have been bitten by this dog. Anyone who has experienced a bite is encouraged to come forward.

A spokesperson for Barrie Police Service informed that they have identified the dog’s owner but did not specify whether any charges would be filed.

Barrie police are currently assisting city bylaw officials with their investigation.
