Police in Barrie, Ont., report that a man and a woman found dead in a home in the north end on Saturday were victims of intimate partner violence.

Authorities say officers responded to a wellness check request at a residence near St. Vincent Street and Osprey Ridge Road on June 20.

The bodies of a 45-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man were discovered at the scene.

Officials indicate that the woman’s death is classified as homicide, while the man’s death was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

They have recovered a firearm from the location and are not searching for any suspects. No charges are anticipated.

Out of respect for the families, police have chosen not to disclose their identities.
