Update #1 (1:58 p. m.): Barrie police confirm they are looking into a homicide today following a stabbing incident near Five Points.

The police are searching for 29-year-old Justin Harris regarding a homicide that occurred near Bayfield Street and Dunlop Street West on Friday morning.

Initially referred to as a “person of interest,” Harris is now being labeled as a “suspect” in this case.

At around 11:30 a. m., police received reports of an injured man lying on the ground at Bayfield Street and Dunlop Street West.

Upon arrival, officers found that the victim had sustained a stab wound, according to police reports.

The 36-year-old man from Barrie was rushed to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries there.

Police indicate that Harris was last observed wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, black track pants, blue shoes, and carrying a black backpack. He was seen with the victim shortly before authorities were notified and left soon after.

Later sightings placed him near Worsley Street and Owen Street, where he changed out of his red sweatshirt into a black T-shirt while carrying two backpacks, according to law enforcement officials.

If anyone has information or any surveillance or dash-cam footage from the area, they’re urged to reach out to the Barrie police major crime/homicide unit at 705-725-7025, ext. 2160.

The roads surrounding this area remain closed as investigations continue.
