Authorities report a 36-year-old man from Barrie was taken to the hospital where he later passed away; a suspect has been apprehended.

Barrie police have announced they are looking into a homicide that occurred today due to a stabbing near Five Points.

Officers have arrested 29-year-old Justin Harris in connection with the homicide that happened at the intersection of Bayfield Street and Dunlop Street West on Friday morning.

Initially, police referred to Harris as a “person of interest,” but they are now identifying him as a “suspect” in this investigation.

At around 11:30 a. m., police received calls about an injured male found lying on the ground at Bayfield Street and Dunlop Street West.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the victim had sustained a stab wound, according to police reports.

The 36-year-old man from Barrie was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities say Harris was last spotted wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, black track pants, blue shoes, and carrying a black backpack. He was seen with the victim moments before police were alerted and left shortly thereafter.

Later, he was observed near Worsley Street and Owen Street taking off the red sweatshirt and switching to a black T-shirt while carrying two backpacks, police stated.

If anyone has information or may have surveillance or dash-cam footage from the area, they’re encouraged to reach out to the Barrie police major crime/homicide unit at 705-725-7025, ext. 2160.

Roads surrounding the area remain closed as investigators continue their work.
