Police report that the shooting occurred following a confrontation at a nightclub in downtown Barrie; suspect is being sought.

A 30-year-old man from Barrie has been transported to a trauma center in the Toronto area with serious but stable injuries after being shot on Dunlop Street East, situated between Owen Street and Clapperton Street, shortly before 3 a. m. on Sunday, according to police.

Authorities mentioned they received a call around 2:45 a. m. about an altercation outside a downtown nightclub, which led to one male victim sustaining a gunshot wound.

Investigators have acquired images of the male suspect connected to the shooting, and Barrie Police are requesting help from the public to identify him based on the provided images.

The investigation is still active, and police consider this incident as isolated.

In their news release, police stated, “while there is always a concern when firearms are involved, Barrie police do not believe there is a risk to public safety at this time.”

If you have any information, please reach out to Barrie Police at 705-725-7025.

Dunlop Street East is currently closed between Owen Street and Mulcaster Street.

Barrie Today will share more details as they become available.
