BURLINGTON, ON

Burlington MP Karina recently took the floor in the House of Commons to acknowledge that it has been 20 years since the passing of OPP Sergeant Greg Stobbart. He was a well-liked Burlington resident who tragically lost his life due to a reckless driver while cycling during a training session. Greg was a dedicated officer with 25 years under his belt, an enthusiastic athlete, and a deeply caring family man and friend.

Eleanor founded the Share the Road Cycling Coalition.

In the face of such profound loss, Greg’s wife, Eleanor Mc Mahon, decided to act with bravery. She established the Share the Road Cycling Coalition, which has evolved into one of Canada’s most impactful road safety organizations.

Eleanor’s efforts led to “Greg’s law,” Ontario’s one-metre safe passage law, which toughens penalties for drivers who harm or kill vulnerable road users. Turning her grief into action, she made significant changes to road safety in Ontario and saved lives along the way.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Share the Road Gran Fondo in Milton and also features the annual Ontario Bike Summit where we remember Sergeant Stobbart, honor his contributions, and continue our collective mission.
