The City of Kitchener is set to receive a significant sum from the Province of Ontario after exceeding its new housing start target last year.

Rob Flack, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, revealed that Kitchener will receive $8,013,600 through the third round of the Building Faster Fund.

This fund rewards municipalities that meet at least 80 percent of their annual housing goals.

In 2025, Kitchener initiated 3,005 new homes. That’s over 85 percent of their target.

Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic stated in a press release, “This investment, through the Building Faster Fund, reflects the strong commitment of Council, staff and our community to taking action, accelerating progress and delivering more housing for the residents of Kitchener.

Since the program started, Kitchener has shown that with effective collaboration with our provincial partners and a proactive approach, we can provide housing more quickly.” This marks the third consecutive year that Kitchener has qualified for this funding boost.
