Officers from the ICE Unit got a tip from the National Centre of Missing and Exploited Children about the possible upload of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
A 29-year-old man from Barrie is facing several charges after a four-month investigation by the Barrie police’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit.
The accused, whose name hasn’t been made public, was taken into custody on Wednesday, April 8 and charged with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, as well as accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
According to police, local ICE Unit officers received a report from the National Centre of Missing and Exploited Children regarding the alleged upload of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
After conducting further investigations, members of the ICE Unit carried out a search warrant in February at a home in central Barrie.
Several electronic devices owned by the accused were seized for thorough forensic analysis, leading to the classification of images and videos depicting child sexual abuse and exploitation material, according to authorities.
