Recently, Durham Regional Police took into custody Rodrigo Martinez-Palacios, a 27-year-old from Toronto, at a CIBC bank on 308 Taunton Road E in Whitby. The arrest followed his attempt to open a bank account using fake identification documents. During the arrest, officers found several bank cards that were not registered in his name. Martinez-Palacios is facing multiple charges, such as fraud under $5,000 and possession of someone else’s identity documents. He was already being sought for similar crimes and had prior conditions against having such documents.
