An Asian grocery store in Pickering that opened with excitement just a year ago has closed its doors, displaying a notice on the entrance stating that the owners owe over $2.36 million.
Memon Supermarket at 1899 Brock Road (the previous Sobey’s location) has been locked out by the landlord, with Calloway REIT posting a notice through the bailiff on June 1 declaring the lease terminated due to an unpaid debt of $2,367,805.51.

With Izhar Ahmed listed as the owner since reopening on June 26, 2025, Memon will now need to coordinate with the landlord for removing “all goods and chattel.”
The notice stated that any attempt to access the premises without permission is considered “unlawful.”
Memon issued an official statement last week acknowledging they were aware of videos and online content containing “false and malicious allegations” about the company and mentioned that a police report has been filed.
“As the matter is currently under investigation, we will not be making further public comments at this time,” the company said. “We appreciate the patience, understanding and support of our community while the appropriate processes take their course.”
