In Loving Memory of Gordon Edward Mc Guinty
(November 1, 1946 – May 12, 2026)
With heavy hearts, we announce that Gordon Edward Mc Guinty, age 79, passed away peacefully in Stouffville on Tuesday May 12, 2026 surrounded by his family. We are so grateful for every moment shared and every memory created with such a wonderful man.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Mac and Margaret Mc Guinty and his brother Bill. He is survived by his son Michael Mc Guinty (Bobbie) and Michael’s mother Suzanne Mc Guinty, along with his adopted son and daughter Scott Mc Guinty and Somerleigh Frith (Dave). He also leaves behind his grandchildren Kaila and Courtney Mc Guinty (Michael), Wesley, Jillian and Clare Frith (Somerleigh), Walker Mc Guinty (Scott), and his brother Moe (Wendy).
In his younger years, Gord was a talented athlete. He quarterbacked the Chippewa Raiders football team for five years. As a competitive ski racer, he earned spots on both the Ontario Ski Team and The Canadian National Ski Team Association “Les Espoirs” or “the hopefuls.” Gord later transitioned to coaching, taking on the role of head coach for the Northern Ontario Alpine Ski Team. Throughout the years, five of his young racers made it to the Canadian National Ski Team.
As a boy, Gord worked as a caddy at the North Bay Golf and Country Club where he developed a love for golf that stayed with him throughout life. This passion was one he eventually shared with both of his sons, Michael and Scott. In 1993, at just 46 years old, he became runner-up in the Northern Ontario Amateur Golf Championships which qualified him for the Ontario Amateur Golf Championships the following year-an achievement he cherished forever.
An entrepreneur at heart, Gord launched his first paving company when he was just 22. He went on to own multiple businesses involved in aggregates, civil construction, sports facility construction, product manufacturing, management consulting and safety messaging. He’s perhaps best recognized for championing the permitting of Adams Mine Landfill-the largest landfill approval granted in Canada over the past four decades-as well as providing an Ontario-based solution to Southern Ontario’s waste management issues.
Quiet philanthropy defined Gord’s approach to life; as a coach and mentor he supported countless individuals during tough times. He lived life on his own terms until the end and will be fondly remembered by family members, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
Gordon’s Message
I have been a lucky man. Everyone can look back sometimes wishing they had done things differently-I think about it occasionally-but honestly the positives far outweigh any second-guessing. Money never motivated me; it was always about people and challenges-so there are no regrets or second thoughts.
How could there be! Three amazing children who are all successful in their own right! I had Michael but then got fortunate finding Somerleigh and Scott! Each of you is making your own mark in this world-big or small doesn’t matter-I was proud of each one of you every single day. I hope I helped when you needed me because I’ve always been proud to be your father.
And yes-grandchildren are incredible! Best wishes to them all-they’re unique individuals who are all special in their own ways. They’ve got fantastic parents who set great examples too! Maybe save a copy of my book for them to read when they grow up; there are some good messages in there-love you all!
Nope-I never remarried but had wonderful relationships with amazing women who brought joy into my life-and hopefully vice versa! I liked it that way. Please mention Carol Ann Cole-a lifelong friend who will always hold a special place in my heart. Gordon Acton accompanied me through many experiences from mountain adventures to boardroom meetings-a very special friend indeed! And Mike Poupore has always been one of those rare friendships I could count on-I didn’t need many!
Elizabeth stands out above all others though-her advice over so many years shaped me into a better person altogether! My journey has been happy because she was part of it all along-the support she provided Michael, Somerleigh, and Scott made our lives richer together. I never felt lonely knowing she played such an important role throughout my lifetime.
I had two great brothers too-they were unique men full of creativity-each leaving their mark somehow. Bill left us too soon while Moe inspires everyone around him daily with courage & optimism about life. As brothers we weren’t always close but our love ran deep-we were proud nonetheless!
I embraced being an entrepreneur since age fifteen operating asphalt rollers right up until nearly becoming millionaires several times over-it brought fulfillment every step along this journey without ever feeling like work at any point. How many folks can say they’re this lucky? Here I am now seventy-five penning these thoughts down hoping still have some time left ahead!
Eventually everything must conclude. I don’t want any funeral fuss-create an interesting obituary instead, involve Elizabeth alongside anyone else whom you feel deserves inclusion. Gordon&Diane represented constants during much time spent together. Plan an enjoyable dinner with kids, tell stories, Kaila play guitar, laugh plenty& remember how much fun riding through life truly is!
You know that saying: “rest in peace”? Well trust me-I will thanks entirely due having all you around!
