For several years, Carling Avenue has consistently been recognized as the least liked road by drivers in the City of Ottawa.

Data from the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) shows that this road is notorious for its potholes, lane closures, and multiple major traffic bottlenecks throughout Ottawa, making it the city’s worst road.

The five most disliked roads based on public votes are:

Carling Avenue Bronson Avenue Innes Road Bank Street Richmond Road

Even with its bad reputation in the nation’s capital, none of Ottawa’s streets make it onto Ontario’s list of the worst roads. That title goes to Hamilton’s Barton Street for a third consecutive year, with many roads from the Greater Toronto Area also appearing in the top 10.

Brian Pirvu, a Government Relations Consultant for CAA South Central Ontario, mentioned to City News that voters pointed out these roads were filled with potholes, had uneven surfaces, lacked proper maintenance, and suffered from heavy traffic congestion.

“The CAA Worst Roads campaign gives Ontarians a voice and helps shine a light on the roads that need attention most,” he said. “When people speak up, it helps drive action and ensures governments understand where investments are needed to keep communities safe and moving.”

Pirvu stated they run this voting campaign each year to encourage municipalities to improve road conditions.
