A tow truck retrieves a vehicle that fell into a pit at a construction site on Coulter Street in Barrie on June 3, 2026.

Original story:

Barrie firefighters rescued a woman from a vehicle that crashed through a fence and dropped around 11 metres into a construction hole on Wednesday evening.

A fire official told Barrie 360 that crews arrived around 7:19 p. m. to the location at 53 Coulter Street, which is behind the Bayfield Mall.

The woman was taken to the hospital. Her condition remains unknown.

The hole has fencing around it but there was an opening where the vehicle went through, which was later cordoned off with yellow tape.

The fire official confirmed that police are managing the investigation into this incident.

A large tow truck was called in to remove the vehicle.

A new building with 12 stories and 188 apartments is being constructed at this site.
