Authorities report that a boy, thought to be around 12 or 13 years old, was with another child and seemed to be riding in the area on a type of motorized bike at the time.

MISSISSAUGA – Police in Peel Region have stated that a young boy lost his life after being struck by a GO train just west of Toronto on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident took place just before 3 p. m. at a train crossing located near Alexandra Avenue and Fourth Street in Mississauga, Ont., causing train services in the vicinity to stop.

Const. Tyler Bell-Morena informed reporters at the scene that the boy, estimated to be about 12 or 13 years old, was hit by a westbound train and was pronounced dead shortly after.

He noted that the boy was with another young child and appeared to be riding around the area on some sort of motorized bike during this time.

Bell-Morena mentioned that early investigations indicate all traffic signals were working properly when the incident occurred, with crossing arms down and lights flashing.

It seems that the child went around the barrier prior to being struck by the train.

This report by The Canadian Press was first March 18, 2026.
