Former Kitchener, Ont., neurologist Jeffrey Sloka is now facing two additional sexual assault charges, just weeks after being acquitted of numerous previous allegations.

Sloka appeared at the Waterloo Region Courthouse on Tuesday regarding these latest charges – which include separate counts of sexual assault that allegedly occurred in 2011 and 2013.

One complainant claims to have been sexually assaulted between August 2011 and February 2013, according to court documents obtained by .

A second complainant states that a sexual assault took place in June 2013.

The identities of the complainants cannot be disclosed due to a publication ban.

Crown appealing acquittals

The new allegations come as Crown prosecutors have filed a notice to appeal Justice Craig Parry’s decision made on April 24, which cleared Sloka of 48 counts of sexual assault.

The Crown is requesting a new trial and seeks for the acquittals to be overturned.

The accusations against Sloka first emerged in 2017 while he was treating patients for issues ranging from migraines to head injuries.

In 2019, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario revoked his medical license.

During the trial, witnesses testified that Sloka had asked patients to undress so he could conduct physical or skin examinations, including breast and pelvic exams.

Patients shared their experiences involving what they described as unnecessary examinations and inappropriate touching. Sloka also took the stand in his own defense, denying the claims or stating they were needed for the medical evaluations.

Sloka trial ‘impacted so many people’

Sara Casselman, executive director of the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region, told on Thursday that both Sloka’s trial and these new charges highlight how deeply this case has affected the community.

“As time goes on, it just seems to be getting bigger and bigger,” Casselman said.

“It’s impacted so many people in our community and it’s on our community’s radar in such a significant way, which I think is really important.”

Sloka is scheduled to return to court at the end of July.
