Easter weekend is here in Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering, Ajax, Clarington, and throughout Durham Region. Good Friday (April 3), Easter Sunday (April 5), and Easter Monday (April 6) are coming up a bit earlier this year compared to April 18 last year.
Unlike holidays that have fixed dates, Easter depends on the lunar cycle; it occurs on the first full moon after the spring equinox.
This holiday is both a serious Christian observance remembering the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and a fun time for kids hunting for chocolate treats hidden by the Easter Bunny. Many historians believe Jesus was likely crucified on April 7 in 30 AD. However, early Christians wanted to align this holiday with Jewish Passover, which is observed on the 15th of Nisan in the Hebrew calendar.
