The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have confirmed that a woman found dead west of Ottawa earlier this month is Geraldine Fulcher, a 61-year-old from Calabogie, and they suspect her death was intentional.
On May 6, police from the Renfrew detachment received a call just before 6 p. m. about an incident on Lanark Road in Greater Madawaska and discovered a deceased individual, according to a news release issued on May 7.
On Friday, authorities indicated that investigators think her death was deliberate and not part of a larger threat. There were no arrests or suspects announced at that time.
“The OPP is aware of community concerns and wants to reassure residents that this matter is being taken seriously,” police wrote, without elaborating.
“The OPP asks that the public refrain from sharing unconfirmed information, which can cause additional harm to the victim’s family and may interfere with the integrity of the investigation.”
Authorities noted there will be an increased police presence in the area during the investigation and more details will be shared as they become available.
Calabogie serves as a central location in Greater Madawaska, which had about 2,850 residents as per the 2021 census.
