The City of Thunder Bay is looking for your input on the next steps for the waterfront redevelopment at Pool 6, following the success of Prince Arthur’s Landing.
Pool 6 development is a key focus in the new Smart Growth Action Plan.
“Developing Pool 6 will be a game changer for Thunder Bay,” said Joel De Peuter, director of development services. “With this project, we have the chance to build a world-class waterfront destination for residents and visitors – while boosting the local economy and tax base.”
The Pool 6 area spans 12.2 hectares along the Lake Superior shoreline, located directly south of Prince Arthur’s Landing and the upcoming Thunder Bay Art Gallery.
This site was once home to the Saskatchewan Pool 6 grain elevator but now features the City’s cruise ship terminal, the Transportation Museum of Thunder Bay, and plans for a Science North Centre. You can read more about its history here.
The Pool 6 site presents an exciting opportunity to enhance what has already been achieved at Prince Arthur’s Landing, making Thunder Bay’s waterfront an attractive spot for both locals and tourists – as well as a driver for our local economy.
The city is currently reviewing four potential development concepts for the Pool 6 property as part of updating the Waterfront Master Plan. These ideas were influenced by public feedback collected throughout 2024.
All proposed scenarios include important features like multi-use trails, an urban beach and public pavilion, a boathouse with dock space, commercial storefronts, and plans for Science North. They also consider options such as a market, Nordic spa, hotel and convention center, water park, and residential developments.
