A 40-year-old man from Ottawa has been charged by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) following a collision in December 2025 that involved an OPP vehicle and a pickup truck, resulting in the death of a child and serious injuries to three others.
The incident took place late in the afternoon on December 13, 2025, on Highway 7 between Drummond School Road and Drummond Concession 7.
According to OPP, an officer was conducting patrols in a marked cruiser when their vehicle was hit by the truck.
Three people inside the truck suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital, including a 10-year-old child. Two days later, OPP reported that the child had passed away.
The officer driving the police car also sustained serious injuries.
On Friday, authorities announced that the Ottawa man is facing four charges: dangerous operation causing bodily harm, dangerous operation causing death, impaired operation causing bodily harm, and impaired operation causing death.
The individual has been released from custody and is set to appear in court again in August.
Police are also asking anyone with information or dashcam footage who hasn’t come forward yet to reach out to the Lanark County detachment.
