Mr. Loudis Canada, affectionately called “Cannon Ball” by family and friends, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper in Saginaw, Michigan, with his family by his side. He was 90 years old. Born on August 10, 1927, to Leathan and Lula Pearl Canada in Camphill, Alabama.

He married Mary Alice Canada on February 9, 1949. His devoted wife of 60 years sadly passed away on January 31, 2009. Mr. Canada was a lifelong member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Saginaw until health issues arose. He retired from the Chevrolet Grey Iron Plant in Saginaw after working there from 1951 to 1980 and was part of local Hall 668 during that time. Loudis was known for being a caring and cheerful person who loved spending time with family and friends. Musically gifted, he played guitar by ear and sang in the Gospel Male Chorus at Tabernacle Baptist Church for many years. Cannon Ball had a great sense of humor that brought joy and laughter to those around him. He will be truly missed.

Mr. Canada is survived by four daughters: Rosie (Sampson) Pittman, Kathy Barnett, Hester Lowery, Shirley Jones; two sons: Richard (Tiffany) Lee and John George (Lizzie) Moore; one brother: Redell Canada from Desmond, Iowa; one sister: Carrie Canada; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Alice Canada; two daughters Ethel Dawkins and Lula Pearl Canada; one sister Lovie Mae; as well as seven brothers.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Mr. Canada’s caregiver Cathy Burns for her kindness and compassionate care for our Dad during his last days and also to Covenant Healthcare for their professional support.
