Ontario Construction News staff writer

The City of Windsor is looking for engaged and qualified residents to apply for two open spots on the committee of adjustment. This independent group makes decisions on applications, takes public feedback, and evaluates each case based on its own merits, relevant laws, and input from City staff. The choices made by this committee can significantly affect individual properties, neighborhoods, and the wider community.

The City wants applicants who offer knowledge, professionalism, and good judgment. The best candidates will have experience in areas related to Committee of Adjustment matters, city planning, architecture, real estate law, or development. A general understanding of how committees, boards, and commissions operate is also desirable.

Successful candidates will need to show:

General knowledge of the Planning Act, municipal by-laws, building and construction processes, as well as City operations. The ability to set aside time for reviewing and researching applications before public hearings. Strong analytical skills to visualize proposed developments and their effects on nearby properties and communities based on drawings, plans, and written reports. Professional communication skills that are courteous during public meetings. Integrity with the ability to recognize and declare conflicts of interest. Comfort with technology including email communications and virtual meetings via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

This presents a unique chance for residents to share their expertise while supporting responsible development in guiding Windsor’s future.

If you’re interested in making a positive difference in your community, you’re encouraged to learn more about this opportunity and apply at www. Windsor ABC. ca.
