GAMMAGE- Elaine (Nee Comartin)
With heavy hearts, we share the news of Elaine Gammage’s passing, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on June 12, 2025. Born on May 13, 1951, Elaine devoted her life to her family, career, and the communities she was part of.
Elaine was the caring wife of James R. Gammage for 52 wonderful years. Together they created a home filled with love and laughter. She was a proud mother to Emilee (Mike) Drew and Justin (Anna Mc Nichol) Gammage and an adoring grandmother to Alina, Ethan, Kiana, Jayden, and Davin who brought her immense joy. She is also deeply mourned by her sisters Yvette Janisse, Carmel Lebert and Madeline Reid along with her late brother Louis Comartin and many friends who appreciated her kindness and generosity.
Beyond being a devoted family member, Elaine was a strong advocate for community health care and education. Her impressive 40-year journey at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance saw her not only providing care to patients but also guiding countless future health care professionals as a clinical instructor for diagnostic imaging students. Her enthusiasm for teaching helped shape the field of healthcare during her time as Head of the Diagnostic Imaging Department. Additionally, she contributed to the Tilbury Health Care team as a board member furthering her commitment to bettering lives.
Elaine’s talents extended into real estate where she excelled as a top-performing realtor with Rexmax in Chatham during the 1990s. Her dedication in real estate mirrored her excellence in healthcare showcasing how versatile she truly was.
Elaine’s zest for life went beyond work; she loved traveling to new places but found her greatest happiness in spending time with family and friends. A passionate gardener at heart, she’d spend hours nurturing her beautiful yard while enjoying nature’s peace around her. Dancing with Jim brought them both so much joy; their moments together on the dance floor spoke volumes about their enduring bond.
Her commitment to fitness showed through daily walks that kept several pairs of walking shoes worn out over time. These moments provided strength and calmness allowing Elaine to stay active in every part of life.
The impact Elaine made will always remain in the hearts of those who knew her as well as all lives she influenced throughout both professional paths and personal connections. She will be remembered for her compassion along with the generous love shared freely among everyone around.
As per her wishes cremation has been carried out.
