Family Day 2026 falls on Monday, February 16, and folks in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Hamilton, Niagara Region and Durham Region are curious about what will be open or closed for this holiday.

This holiday is celebrated on the third Monday of February throughout Ontario and gives everyone a nice long weekend right in the middle of winter.

If you’re looking to shop, eat out, check out local attractions or run errands, here’s a guide to what’s open and closed in the GTA and nearby areas on Family Day 2026.

Here’s the breakdown of what’s available in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Hamilton, Niagara Region and Durham Region:

Mississauga

Open

On Monday, Feb. 16th, residents can visit Square One Shopping Centre (Walmart and Whole Foods will also be open), several smaller grocery stores (like Rabba locations), most drugstores and pharmacies as well as many restaurants, bars and cafes that usually operate on Mondays. Federal government offices will be open too along with the Celebration Square ice rink. Canada Post will also be running.

Closed

However, some businesses and attractions won’t be operating including Erin Mills Town Centre, Heartland Town Centre, Dixie Outlet Mall among other major malls in the city. Most big grocery stores along with all Beer Store and LCBO locations will be closed too as well as banks libraries non-emergency provincial and municipal offices (including City Hall) plus non-emergency Region of Peel offices.

If you rely on transit keep in mind that Mi Way is running on a holiday schedule (check online) while GO Transit operates under a Saturday schedule.

Your waste collection will happen one day later than usual.

Toronto

Open

In Toronto some shopping centers and grocery stores will welcome visitors including Eaton Centre Eataly (all locations) Rabba grocery stores Summerhill Market Wellington Market Wine Rack locations along with Waterworks Food Hall. Most tourist spots such as Ripley’s Aquarium AGO Toronto Zoo ROM CN Tower Aga Khan Museum Casa Loma Allan Gardens Conservatory Centennial Park Conservatory The Well Riverdale Farm should also be accessible. Restaurants cafes bars typically open on Mondays are likely to serve but it’s best to call ahead to confirm. Most drugstores pharmacies will remain operational too alongside Canada Post services.

Closed

You’ll find that non-emergency provincial municipal offices (including City Hall) won’t be open along with banks libraries St Lawrence Market all LCBO Beer Store locations Dufferin Mall Yorkdale Sherway Gardens Scarborough Town Centre plus most major grocery stores closing their doors for the day.

The TTC is providing holiday service while GO Transit runs under a Saturday timetable. 

No changes are expected for waste collection services.

Brampton

Open

This Family Day on Feb. 16 several places will operate including movie theaters most drugstores pharmacies certain smaller grocery outlets like Rabba corner convenience stores many cafes restaurants bars typically serving customers on Mondays (it’s good practice to call ahead) select recreation centers Peel Art Gallery Museum Archives offering free admission along with all essential government services. Bramalea City Centre will have reduced hours for shoppers.

You can count on Canada Post being operational too.

Closed

A variety of businesses services won’t be available such as all LCBO Beer Store sites Shoppers World most major grocery outlets libraries banks Brampton Animal Shelter plus all non-emergency provincial municipal government offices including City Hall itself.

Brampton Transit has modified its service schedule for the holiday while GO Transit follows a Saturday operation plan.

Waste pickup gets pushed back by one day this week.

Halton – Burlington Oakville Milton
