The OHL’s Manager of Culture and Community shares how players talking about their mental health encourages fans to do the same.

In a highly competitive league like the Ontario Hockey League, winning is often the main focus.

Many of us admire the talent and speed of players making incredible plays. But what we don’t often see is what’s happening in their minds when the game gets tough.

For our mental health week feature, Ken Hashizume sat down with Tracy Robert, who manages Culture and Community for the OHL.

She discusses why more athletes, coaches, and staff are being open about their mental health struggles and emphasizes that seeking help is perfectly fine.

We hear how former OHL player Ben Fanelli (left in photo) has used his own experiences to support others dealing with mental health challenges. Plus, by sharing their stories, players have inspired many others to follow suit.
