It’s been more than three months since a winning ticket for a record-breaking $80-million Lotto Max draw was sold in London, Ont., and the enormous jackpot is now being claimed.

Tony Bitonti, a representative for the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), mentioned that two individuals have stepped forward to claim the prize, and their names will be shared in an official announcement once the verification process is complete.

The draw, which OLG refers to as the largest-ever win in Ontario, took place on Dec. 30. This amount ties with the $80 million awarded last year by the B. C. Lottery Corp., which stated it was both the biggest jackpot won in that province and Canada’s largest individual win overall.

Bitonti noted that he doesn’t have information about the two winners from Ontario, their connection to each other, or where exactly the ticket was purchased. He did say it was bought at a retail location rather than through the OLG mobile app.

“We need to confirm they are indeed the rightful owners of that ticket and we expect to pay out that big prize soon.”

Time for Legal Advice and Family Talks

Although many winners of such a huge prize might rush to claim it, Bitonti pointed out that it’s normal for some people to take their time before stepping forward.

“For these larger prizes, anything from $50 [million] up to $80 million, we usually see that winners take time to consider how life-changing this event is and get their affairs sorted.”

He explained that winners often prefer some time for discussions with family members and financial advisors or even consulting with a lawyer before making such a significant change in their lives by claiming jackpots.

“We’ve seen this pattern repeatedly over time. They have up to one year from the draw date to claim that prize. We advise checking your ticket right away but coming prepared when visiting the prize center.”

Sitting on such a large unclaimed prize can stir up complex feelings, Bitonti added. Winners can verify their winning ticket at a retail location, but many feel hesitant about doing so.

“Often winners feel anxious; they don’t want all eyes on them when they hear ‘Winner, gagnant’ go off on the machine.”

He mentioned that winners can initiate claims by calling OLG or using the mobile app for checking tickets. A photo of the winning ticket can also be uploaded via the OLG website to begin processing claims.

If someone who has won a substantial amount calls in, OLG staff will guide them through uploading an image of their ticket so they can start claiming their winnings while also creating an initial record of victory. Paper tickets contain security details ensuring legitimacy during claims processes, said Bitonti.

He also recommends winners sign their tickets immediately so it’s harder for anyone else to claim any prizes if they’re lost or fall into wrong hands.

Through its system, OLG monitors when winning tickets are checked using their mobile app.

Bitonti shared that some individuals check their tickets multiple times.

P”Many find it almost impossible to believe they’ve actually won this much money.” We notice frequent hits on our app but cannot identify who checks those tickets; we’ve had people check it 20 or even 30 times just trying to confirm they’re really winners. They wake up after sleeping just hoping it’s not just a dream.”

The officials at OLG note that those who’ve won large lottery prizes often wait before cashing them out; he’s heard stories about individuals putting winning tickets in safety deposit boxes or stashing them until they’re ready visit OLG. (CBC)

A t some stage though , winners of major jackpots must arrive at OLG’s prize center located in Toronto in order collect checks.

Bitonti has heard tales about people keeping tickets tucked away safely until they could come forward.

“We once had a couple travel from Ottawa carrying around a $40 million ticket on board train , keeping it hidden inside small plastic baggie tucked inside boot,” he recalled. “When they arrived at prize center , they removed boot , retrieved plastic baggie , handed us winning slip.”

If Your Ticket Gets Damaged? Don’t Worry! They Can Fix It!

You might wonder what happens if you end up with severely damaged winner’s ticket?

“OLG operates something like ‘CSI’ lab capable restoring compromised slips as long as other verifying details check out,” explained Bitonti.

“If it accidentally goes through wash machine , paper shredder , etc., we’re able reconstruct slips proving ownership. Our goal isn’t denying payouts ; instead ensuring rightful claimants receive funds.”

Bitonti stated occurrences wherein significant wins aren’t claimed remain rare yet still happen occasionally.

The current unclaimed bigger wins listed upon OLg’s site include one hefty sum worth $40 million originating from October drawn within “rural Toronto west” area. Also present are two remaining awards valued at one million dollars alongside several smaller amounts ranging anywhere between ten thousand dollars – hundred thousands dollar ranges respectively.

The most substantial windfall never collected within history remains colossal seventy-million dollar slip sold back during twenty-two years period.

Sadly despite organized efforts urging players check purchased selections thoroughly no successful validation occurred hence none who emerged claimed legitimacy answering basic queries pertaining origins acquisition dates related purchases made amidst challenges encountered verifying authenticity info requested.

Large sums awaiting collection revert back into OLg’s general pool reserved specifically designated rewarding future participants upon achieving lucky picks leading towards enhanced chances turning dreams reality!

Tomorrow evening boasts yet another exciting Lotto Max drawing expected reach upwards nearing eighty-million-dollar record milestone currently standing firmly estimated seventy-five millions
