Police have taken a Mississauga man into custody on drug and mischief charges after a drone was launched close to an Ontario prison.
The OPP reported that the drone was seen on Feb. 4 at around 10:30 a. m. near a correctional facility located on County Road 29 in Brighton, approximately 100 kilometres east of Oshawa.
While investigators haven’t disclosed the name of the correctional institution, the Warkworth Institution
medium-security prison is situated on County Road 29. After receiving a report about the drone, police found a vehicle in the vicinity that matched a suspect’s description and arrested one man. The OPP has charged Ahmed Abd Alzim Suliman, 28, from Mississauga, with mischief – obstructing, interrupting or interfering with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property, delivering contraband to, or receiving contraband from an inmate, and possession of cannabis for distribution purposes. The accused is set to appear in front of the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg next month.
