The City of Windsor has once again made it onto the CDP Cities A List and received an award from the Economic Developers Council of Ontario.
The recognition from EDCO was for Excellence in the Business Attraction and Retention category. The news was shared at the recent EDCO President’s Dinner.
Windsor’s accolade highlights its leadership, teamwork, and successful efforts in securing one of the province’s major advanced manufacturing projects this past year, specifically, the Minth Group’s $300-million electric vehicle manufacturing campus. This achievement took 18 months and involved collaboration between city departments, Invest Windsor Essex, Invest Ontario, the province, and industry partners.
“This prestigious award reflects what is possible when strong leadership, trusted partnerships, and a shared vision come together,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “We are investing responsibly and focusing on the long game as we continue to strengthen our future. This recognition reinforces that Windsor is open for business and ready to compete on the global stage.”
The city has set aside 54 acres of airport land for advanced industrial use, announced a second facility through a partnership with AISIN Corporation, and bolstered its status as a national leader in energy and advanced manufacturing.
At the same time, Windsor joined 120 cities worldwide-seven of them in Canada-on the CDP Cities A List. This global ranking acknowledges leadership in environmental transparency, climate action, and resilience planning.
The other Canadian cities that received this honor include Burlington, Calgary, Halifax, Montreal, St. John’s, and Vancouver.
To qualify for this list, cities must provide a comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions inventory for their area along with a climate risk assessment and a climate action plan.
Since 2016, Windsor has reported this information to CDP-a global non-profit that operates an independent environmental disclosure system-and has consistently achieved scores of A minus or higher.
Last year alone, it assisted over 24,800 companies along with 1,000 cities, states, and regions in disclosing their environmental impacts.
