As the warm weather approaches, more residents might head to Pickering’s waterfront. It’s important to remember that parking fees are now in place with summer just around the corner.

Starting today (May 1), Pickering’s annual waterfront permit parking policy takes effect and will last until Oct. 1.

Permit and paid parking will be enforced daily from 9 a. m. to 10 p. m., including weekends and public holidays. For drivers without a permit, the hourly rate is $2.50 from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m., Monday through Friday, increasing to $5 per hour after 5 p. m. On weekends, the $5-per-hour rate applies all day long.

This seasonal policy covers all of the city’s waterfront parking lots such as Liverpool Road, Progress Park (Front Road), Beachpoint Promenade, and the Annland Street lot.

<p Signage has been placed throughout the area indicating where permits or payments are necessary.

The streets under permit parking regulations include Annland Street, Beachpoint Promenade, Breezy Drive, Broadview Street, Commerce Street, Front Road, Leaside Street, Liverpool Road, Marksbury Road, Mink Street, Oklahoma Drive, Park Crescent, Pleasant Street, Sunrise Avenue, Surf Avenue, Tullo Street, Westshore Blvd., Wharf Street and Yeremi Street.

According to city officials, residents of Pickering can get a free seasonal permit that lasts for two years. To apply for one, vehicles must be registered at a Pickering address.

Non-residents can acquire a permit for $60 monthly or $165 annually. Seniors aged 65 and older who don’t live in Pickering can also request a free seasonal parking permit.

The first two hours of parking are free from Monday to Friday between 9 a. m. and 5 p. m. within the waterfront permit area except for Beachpoint Promenade, Front Street and municipally operated waterfront lots. A parking session must still be started on the app but there won’t be any charge for those first two hours.

A digital guest pass system is available for residents living on waterfront area streets along with free Wi-Fi at three municipal parking locations.

Pickering’s waterfront permit program was introduced to help manage high visitor numbers and traffic congestion at popular waterfront spots by ensuring both residents and visitors have access.

This program first launched in 2022 as part of efforts to alleviate parking challenges at sought-after destinations along Pickering’s waterfront while attracting visitors from near and far.
