A man from Lakeshore has been fined $1,000 after he admitted to capturing, bothering, and trying to hurt Canada geese.
The Ontario Court of Justice reviewed the case on February 2, 2026.
During the proceedings, it was revealed that conservation officers were alerted by the Ontario Provincial Police after witnesses spotted the man harassing geese at Belle River Marina. Eyewitnesses reported that he caught a gosling and tried to harm adult geese by throwing large rocks and swatting at them.
Canada geese are protected migratory birds under federal law.
The court ordered him to pay $1,000 to Ducks Unlimited Canada for bird management, habitat improvement, and protection efforts in the Lakeshore area.
