The remains of an Ontario police officer who lost his life in a highway accident east of Toronto this week were brought to Oshawa on Thursday, ahead of his funeral.

Sgt. Brandon Malcolm passed away while on duty on Monday after a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Highway 401 in Cobourg.

The procession left the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto on Thursday afternoon and traveled east on Highway 401 toward Oshawa.

Along the route, police officers, first responders, and members of the public gathered on several overpasses along the highway.

Police mention that arrangements for the funeral of 33-year-old Malcolm are still being finalized.

OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique stated Monday night that Malcolm became part of the OPP in 2020 and was also involved with the force’s precision motorcycle team known as the Golden Helmets.

This report by The Canadian Press was first April 30, 2026.
