Local police want “residents to be aware” of “two separate incidents involving a firearm” after people walking were hit by projectiles believed to come from an air rifle in downtown Kingston.

In a press release sent out just after 1 p. m. on Tuesday, Apr. 28, 2026, Kingston Police noted that the first incident took place at Russell Street and Patrick Street while the second happened on Palace Road near Park Street.

The authorities stated that both events involved a black vehicle, “possibly a Ford,” with four people inside.

“In both incidents, passengers in the rear of the vehicle we observed to be firing a long gun-style air rifle at pedestrians,” Kingston Police said.

“In both incidents, pedestrians were struck with projectiles shot from the gun.”

Responding to questions from Kingstonist, Constable Anthony Colangeli, Media Relations Officer for Kingston Police, confirmed that the first incident took place around 12:30 p. m., followed closely by the second about five minutes later.

The police are urging residents to report any suspicious activities. They can be contacted at 613-549-4660 ext. 0 if callers wish to stay anonymous.

“If you believe you see the involved vehicle, do not approach and contact 911 immediately,” police advised.

Kingston Police have activated an alert through the Alertable app concerning these occurrences and stated that it will “remain in effect until the incident is resolved.”

Colangeli mentioned that although these acts may have been directed towards specific individuals, this has not been verified yet as investigations continue.

Kingstonist has reached out to police about whether those struck by projectiles reported any injuries.

A press conference is expected later today where police will share more information regarding these situations.

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) and Limestone District School Board (LDSB) have both notified school families they’re aware of these events and are in communication with Kingston Police. Both boards emphasized there’s no threat to student or staff safety within their schools.

Kingston Police are currently searching for a dark-colored pickup truck following two instances where pedestrians were hit by projectiles shortly after one another on Tuesday afternoon in downtown Kingston – cases now thought to involve an airsoft gun fired from a moving vehicle.

In a statement released soon after 1 p. m. on Tuesday, Apr. 28, 2026,, police shared that the first incident occurred around noon in proximity to Russell Street and Patrick Street while another was reported approximately five minutes later on Palace Road close to Park Street.

In both situations, pedestrians were struck by projectiles launched from what law enforcement initially described as a long gun-style air rifle.

However,, during an interview with Kingstonist,, Constable Anthony Colangeli explained that investigators now believe it was an airsoft gun – often called a BB gun – although they haven’t confirmed exactly what type of projectile was used.

Colangeli stated one victim suffered facial injuries near Russell Street and Patrick Street while another individual was reportedly hit multiple times around Palace Road.

Police haven’t disclosed ages or detailed updates regarding victims’ injuries but reports indicate that a seventeen-year-old boy went to hospital due to injuries sustained around his left eye during the first occurrence.

Authorities think both events involved the same vehicle: a dark-colored pickup truck-potentially either a Ford F-150 or larger model-with several occupants inside shooting from its rear section.

The Criminal Investigation Division of Kingston Police is leading this case now and trying hard to figure out if these actions were random or deliberate.

“At this stage,, that’s one of our main concerns,” Colangeli added., pointing out they issued public alerts simply as precaution when reports came through initially.
Police noted they couldn’t identify motive nor predict possible future occurrences; thus they chose inform citizens encouraging vigilance.
While no other similar incidents occurred following their alert hours later., officers still urge locals remain observant report sightings related suspect vehicles promptly.; Citizens should avoid approaching any such vehicles observed themselves instead contacting local authorities immediately.
