Christopher Canada passed away at the age of 55 on February 12, 2024 at JFK Medical Center in Edison surrounded by his family. A dedicated husband and father, Chris is survived by his loving wife of nearly 20 years Debbie and their dear sons Alexander and Robert, along with his father Daniel and sister Debra. He was preceded in death by his mother Maria and brother Daniel.
A native of Clark and a graduate of Arthur L. Johnson High School, where he played varsity lacrosse, Chris later earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from Rutgers University. After spending many years in private legal practice, he was recruited to work in compliance at Sandoz and most recently served as Executive Director at Amicus Therapeutics in Princeton, NJ.
Chris first met his future wife Debbie in 6th grade and quickly fell for her, making it clear through a series of playful pranks combined with acts of kindness like carrying her books home from school. They got married on October 16, 2004 and made their home in Plainfield, where they welcomed their children Alex in 2005 and Bobby in 2007. Chris adored his sons and was always there to support them in school, sports, or helping out with their landscaping business when needed as the unsung (and unpaid) hero. Chris was also a devoted companion to the family’s rescue dog Rusty; together they were a common sight walking through their Netherwood neighborhood.
Among friends, Chris was loved for his sharp wit and sarcastic sense of humor; gatherings with him were sure to be filled with laughter. He had a passion for dirt biking and felt completely at home speeding along the rocky trails of upstate New York. He will be greatly missed by all the communities he influenced, especially among families from Holy Trinity School in Westfield and St. Joseph High School in Metuchen where his sons attend(ed). A man whose humility masked many talents, Chris consistently gave more than he took. Whether it was welcoming every Cub Scout pack member to use his tools for creating Pinewood Derby cars or building a custom podium for Holy Trinity’s classroom or using his truck to help transport St. Joseph’s crew team chuckwagon-Chris not only helped but went above and beyond.
Donations in Chris’s memory may be made to the Memorial for Christopher Canada.
