The Peterborough Swim Club has continued its impressive season by bringing home 22 medals and setting four club records during two significant competitions over the weekend of April 17 to 19.

Peterborough swimmers participated in the 2026 Mallards April Long Course Challenge held at the Markham Pan Am Centre, while the club’s masters athletes took part in the 2026 Ontario Masters Provincials in Etobicoke.

At the Markham competition, swimmers from Peterborough collected a total of 22 medals, including four golds, 12 silvers, and six bronzes while facing off against clubs from all over Ontario.

The weekend also saw the establishment of four new club records.

Owen Stainton set a fresh men’s 13-14 long course record in the 50-metre backstroke with a time of 29.93 seconds. This achievement broke the previous club record of 31.22 set by Ryan Gow back in 2002.

Benjamin Korkus claimed three new records in the men’s 10-and-under long course division.

Korkus established a new record for the 400-metre freestyle at 5:31.20, surpassing Brent Bidgood’s old mark of 5:43.45 from1991.

He also improved upon the previous record for the 100-metre freestyle with a time of 1:12.99, beating Erik Yuill’s mark of 1:14.64 set in1990, and set a new standard for the200-metre freestyle at2:35.43, breaking Bill Cocks’ earlier time of2:41.60 from1994.

At the Ontario Masters Provincials held in Etobicoke, Peterborough swimmers also delivered strong performances.

Stephanie Dancey earned bronze in the1500 freestyle and finished fourth in800 freestyle, while Lisa Oelke achieved fifth-place finishes in both100- and50-metre breaststroke events.

Club officials state that these results showcase ongoing strength throughout all levels ofthe Peterborough Swim Club program, spanning age-group development to masters competition.
