Officers from the Peterborough County OPP have arrested a suspect after finding stolen vehicles at a chop shop in Buckhorn.
On January 29, 2026, just after noon, Peterborough County OPP received a tip about a potential stolen vehicle’s location. Officers went to check out the site, which turned out to be a business in the Buckhorn area. They learned that an adjoining unit was being rented but had little information about its owner.
The next day, January 30, 2026, members of the OPP Peterborough/Northumberland Community Street Crime Unit carried out a warrant at the leased part of the business where the suspected vehicle was found. Inside the unit, they discovered several stolen vehicles that had been dismantled and packaged for shipping.
During their search, officers confiscated parts from at least 13 newer-model stolen vehicles, along with a forklift and various tools believed to belong to the victims. They also found several license plates thought to be from other stolen cars previously located there.
While on-site, officers were informed about the identity of the person connected to that unit and later apprehended him. The suspect was taken into custody at the Peterborough County OPP detachment.
Wajdi Shamsa (41 years old) from Toronto was arrested and charged with;
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
The suspect is being held for bail and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
