A 13-year-old has been charged related to a bomb threat aimed at a school in Hamilton back in January.
Hamilton police stated that they were called to Highview Public Elementary School on Jan. 20 to look into a reported threat.
“The threat was received by school staff which indicated that an explosive device would detonate later that afternoon,” police said.
As a precaution, school officials evacuated the building, moving around 500 students and staff to a nearby high school.
Officers conducted searches of the school and surrounding area and found no explosives or anything suspicious, according to police.
In a news release on Tuesday, after a three-month investigation, police announced that they had taken a 13-year-old into custody.
He faces charges of public mischief and making threats to cause bodily harm. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the teen’s identity cannot be disclosed.
