A police officer from Toronto has been charged following a crash that happened in Whitby, Ontario, last year.
The Special Investigations Unit reported that on the evening of June 25, 2024, officers were looking for a man in Whitby.
According to the watchdog, the man was found riding a scooter when he was hit by an unmarked vehicle belonging to the Toronto Police Service in a Canadian Tire parking lot.
They stated that an 18-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital after the incident.
As a result of the investigation by SIU, Det. Const. Joshua Baksh is facing one charge of dangerous driving and one charge of assault with a weapon.
The watchdog mentioned that Baksh must appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in March and will not provide any additional comments on the investigation while it is pending in court.
