Robert Horton Gardner passed away unexpectedly at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario on December 6, 2025, at the age of 85. Born in Windsor, Ontario to his late parents Robert Gardner from Scotland and Dorothy Lillian Horton from Windsor. He was a loving husband to Norma Gardner (Seal), with whom he enjoyed 66 wonderful years of marriage. His children Chrissy Rusaw (Ron), Coreen Gostlin (Barry Wells), and Douglas Gardner (Christine) will miss him greatly. He was also a proud grandfather to Chantel Stovell (Jer), Ryan Rusaw (Carlie), Casuarina Dwyer (Scott), Jakob Gardner (Jessica), Gabrielle Gardner (Eric), Arron Scriver, and Joe Scriver (Maya). His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Sawyer, Skylar, Ryder, Evangeline, Gavin, Athena, Kida, Lila, and Danahe. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Gardner.
In his younger days in Windsor Ontario, Bob dedicated himself to weight training and bodybuilding. Weighing just 167 lbs at the time, he proudly achieved a bench press of 370 lbs during competition. Bob brought that same determination to learn Goldsmithing as well. In 1964, he opened his own business called Gardner Jewellers in Peterborough Ontario. The shop became well-known for providing wholesale jewelry repairs and diamond setting services for over 52 retail stores across Canada. Bob mentored many aspiring Goldsmiths and worked closely with family members including his brother Tom, son Doug, daughter Coreen, and nephew Tommy. After retiring at age 49, he devoted himself to gardening, raising ornamental pheasants and tropical fish while traveling with his wife Norma.
Bob will be missed by all.
As per Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place without any service.
If you wish to honor Bob’s memory, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
