The Ontario Provincial Police are looking into a deadly shooting that occurred in Renfrew, Ont., late on Friday night.
Officers received a call about an incident at a residence on Vimy Boulevard just before 10:30 p. m., according to a statement from the OPP.
Upon arrival, authorities found someone with gunshot wounds. They were rushed to the hospital, where they were declared dead.
The suspect had fled the scene before officers arrived, the OPP reported. By 7:30 p. m. Saturday, there had been no arrests made.
A public safety alert was issued for the town early Saturday morning but has since been lifted.

Police indicate they think the victim was specifically targeted and that this incident is not part of a larger trend. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
<p When asked why details about the suspect haven't been shared yet, OPP stated they cannot disclose information that would "jeopardize the integrity of the investigation."
An update will be given once an arrest occurs, they mentioned.

“This is the most serious thing our neighborhood has seen since I’ve been living here – almost six years,” she shared.
Moseley mentioned that the house where it happened has been known as a “problem house” for quite some time now.
Another neighbor – who asked not to be named due to safety concerns – echoed her sentiments.

“It’s not something we’re familiar with; that makes it harder for residents because it’s not what we’re used to,” he added.

While it’s natural for people to want more information about what happened , Sidney advised them against jumping to conclusions.
“I just encourage residents of Renfrew to hold tight. When we have more details , we’ll definitely share them.” P>
The OPP confirmed their investigation is still ongoing. Renfrew lies roughly 100 kilometers west of downtown Ottawa.

Concerns Raised by Neighbors
Marianne Moseley, who lives nearby, said she first learned about the shooting after receiving a call from a friend telling her to look outside. From her porch, Moseley saw several police cars and ambulances present. She witnessed one person being taken out on a stretcher and placed into an ambulance that then left.“Hopefully now, this will be the last of the chaos over there.”“I can’t really describe the feeling of knowing that somebody was shot right across the street from my home where I have two children,” she expressed. “But given it is a frequent drug area, we’re not really surprised.”
Mayor Urges Calm
Renfrew Mayor Tom Sidney stated that many residents are feeling anxious after hearing about this incident; he also noted worries regarding “increasing gun violence” in their community. “From my perspective, we don’t tolerate violence and basically, enough is enough,” he remarked. “You want to make sure that everybody’s safe and protected and not living in fear.” Sidney pointed out that events like these are rare in Renfrew.</
