With heavy hearts, the family shares the news of Gordon (Gordie) Cunningham Tays’ passing. He was born on June 28, 1956, in Toronto, Ontario, and left us unexpectedly at home on January 28, 2026.

Gordie spent most of his life in Saint John. A loyal supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays, he had a lifelong passion for baseball and eagerly anticipated each season. He took pride in being part of the Labour Union, demonstrating his dedication to fairness and supporting workers. Gordie was preceded in death by his dear son, Alec Tays, as well as both of his parents, Glenna and Gordon Tays. He also lost Alec’s mother Pauline Morin. Throughout life’s challenges, he showed quiet strength and a caring heart.

He is survived by his grandson William Tays and brothers Greg Tays (Natalie), Brad Tays (Nang), Scott Tays (Shannon), and Kent Tays (Abbie). Many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles also remain to honor him. Gordie will always be remembered as the oldest brother among the Tays siblings-a role he cherished within the family. During summers, you could often find him with family at their favorite gathering spot called “The Duck Pond.”

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to friends, coworkers, and neighbors for all the support shown during this tough time. Visitation will take place at Fundy Funeral Home located at 230 Westmorland Road in Saint John, NB (506-646-2424) on Tuesday, February 3rd from 4:00 to 7:00 p. m. A Celebration of Life service is planned for Wednesday, February 4th at 2:00 p. m., also at Fundy Funeral Home chapel where we’ll reflect on how he impacted those around him. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Autism Canada in Gordie’s memory would be greatly appreciated.

Gordie’s loyalty will be remembered along with his dry sense of humor and quiet demeanor as well as his love for baseball. Everyone who knew him will miss him dearly.
